Ashtanga Fundamentals Workshop
with Sophie and Stacy
Sundays 18 January & 15 February
10 –12 AM
40 euro per session / 70 euro for both
Join Sophie and Stacy for a 2-part workshop series exploring the seated postures of the Ashtanga Primary Series.
Building on our previous study of Sun Salutations and Standing Postures, we’ll now move deeper into the seated sequence, a section of the practice that cultivates both strength and introspection.
Across these two workshops, we’ll break down the mechanics of the seated postures, explore techniques for forward folds, and refine the use of breath and bandhas to support stability and flow. Expect a mix of discussion, technique, and guided practice designed to meet you where you are in your journey.
Whether you’re newer to Ashtanga or a long-time practitioner, these sessions will help you clarify alignment, build awareness, and bring renewed focus to your daily practice.

Primary Series Part 1: Foundations of the Seated Sequence
Join Sophie and Stacy for a continuation of our deep study of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series.
The first half of the seated postures includes Dandasana through Navasana - a section designed to open the hips and hamstrings, and build strength and endurance in the body.
In this session, we’ll explore the core actions of the seated postures, experiment with techniques for forward folds, and develop strategies for a productive and safe practice. We’ll also look at the variety of hip and spine movements that support these postures. Props and hatha yoga techniques will be incorporated to help refine your approach and understanding.
These postures lay the groundwork for what comes later in the series and beyond, so even if you’re practicing beyond Primary Series, this workshop can benefit and inform your practice.
Sunday 15 February · 10–12 AM
Primary Series Part 2: Breath, Bandhas & Balance
The second half of the seated postures in the Primary Series begins with the “peak poses”, Bhujapidasana through Garbha Pindasana, and then gradually softens toward Setu Bandhasana and the closing sequence.
In this session, we’ll explore how to support these more demanding transitions through the integration of breath and bandhas. We’ll look at how inner awareness and energetic control create lightness and stability in the body, deepening both concentration and flow.
Modifications, props, and alternative approaches will be introduced, making this section accessible and enriching for all levels - from beginner to advanced.
